Title Visiting Lecturer in Theatre Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track Department IU South Bend Theatre & Dance Location South Bend Position Summary The Theatre and Dance Department of Indiana University South Bend is seeking a Visiting Lecturer in Theatre, Technical Design to begin August 15, 2026.

The Department, housed in the vibrant Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts a part of the College of Arts and Sciences, is a professionally engaged community of theatre makers with the goal of helping each of our students find and evolve their most trained, flexible, creative, and unique artist within while preparing them for further study in graduate school and/or work in the professional theatre world. The Department offers a BA in Theatre and BFA programs in Musical Theatre Performance and Design & Technical Production. The Theatre and Dance Department produces 2-4 productions per academic year including our children’s theatre series, which has been a beloved tradition in the region for nearly 60 years.

The Visiting Lecturer is responsible for teaching and serving as the Technical Director/Scene Shop Supervisor. Courses will be within their specialty as well as general theatre courses. Possible courses include: Introduction to Theatre, Stagecraft, and Practicum as well as others determined by need and knowledge base. Technical Director responsibilities include mentoring students, building scenery, etc., as a part of our co-curricular production season. The Technical Director will oversee the operation and maintenance of the scenic construction and storage facilities including maintaining the operating budget for the scene shop and student labor.

  • Masters degree or higher, or equivalent work experience.
  • Theatre in Design and/or Technical Production; or related field (masters or above) with experience in theatre.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Budgeting and time management skills.
  • General computer skills and proficiency in Vectorworks.
  • Professional production experience.
Preferred Basic Qualifications:
  • MFA in Theatre in Design and/or Technical Production; or related field (masters or above) with experience in theatre.
  • Experience teaching at the University level.
  • Additional related skillsets (stage management, production management, etc.).
