Senior Accounting Business Partner

We serve as the primary contact for the CFO (Business Partners) of designated legal entities. Our responsibilities include preparing the financial statements for these entities and ensuring compliance with local laws and Group Guidelines. We collaborate closely with centralized accounting departments and various Group Functions (such as Tax and Treasury) to perform our key tasks. Additionally, we keep our Business Partners updated on the financial performance of the entities and manage specific activities as agreed with the CFO. We also coordinate financial and tax audits and support various projects in assigned roles.

Your Role

As a Senior Account Business Partner, you will be responsible for multiple legal entities assigned to you. You will lead and participate in various projects aimed at enhancing efficiencies within the ABP processes and improving the quality of financial reports generated by our team. You will work independently in the following areas:

  • Preparation and/or validation of essential accounting reports or analyses.
  • Execution of accounting tasks, particularly related to MEC, including:
    • Month-end closing activities.
    • Clarifying any deficiencies or irregularities in accounting entries.
    • Archiving documents and work completed.
  • Effective communication by:
    • Providing necessary information to relevant stakeholders.
    • Responding to inquiries promptly and professionally.
    • Notifying managers of any irregularities observed.
    • Serving as a contact point for team leaders, senior management, and project teams on a daily basis.
  • Maintaining high-quality work and seeking improved methods for process performance, particularly by:
    • Adhering to ethical values aligned with Merck's principles.
    • Completing tasks in a timely manner and in accordance with established procedures and control matrices.
    • Upholding responsibilities for services in line with group regulations and work instruction principles.
    • Participating in transition and transformation processes.
    • Creating and enhancing training materials or best practice documents.
    • Contributing to process excellence initiatives.
    • Sharing knowledge and experience with colleagues.
    • Training new employees.
    • Writing and updating procedures.
    • Managing documentation in response to process changes.
    • Providing solutions to identified problems.
    • Participating in projects assigned by managers.
    • Running, coordinating, and overseeing improvement or accounting projects.
    • Monitoring changes in tax and accounting laws and implementing necessary adjustments.
    • Supervising migration and transition projects.
    • Maintaining active and professional communication with CFOs and other stakeholders.
    • Participating in internal and external audits.
    • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Undertaking any ad hoc tasks assigned by the manager.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, or a related field, or completion of advanced coursework in recognized accounting certifications (CA, CWA, CA Inter).
  • More than 7 years of relevant experience (IFRS, audit, reporting).
  • Experience in managing change and communications associated with large transformations.
  • Ability to balance multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Proven track record in driving change and enhancing end-to-end processes.
  • Experience in developing and implementing specific accounting policies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; proficiency in other languages is a plus.
  • Familiarity with SAP and/or Oracle ERPs is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated commitment to personal development; willingness to invest time in upskilling is essential for success.
  • Good communication skills, and attention to detail.
