Project Overview:The Government of North Macedonia is planning to award Bechtel, along with our joint venture partner, the construction of approximately 110km of dual carriageway motorway.
The project is of significant national importance, and the Government of North Macedonia is entrusting the joint venture to fast track the development and construction of these strategic motorways which will form part of the Pan-European Corridors IIIV and Xd, which will enhance North Macedonia’s transport connections with neighbouring countries and support economic and social development.
These four new sections of motorway will continue Bechtel’s legacy in delivering successful motorways in the Balkan region. The North Macedonia motorway consists of two sections in the west heading south from the capital Skopje and running parallel to the Sharr mountains, one section passing through the UNESCO natural world heritage site around Lake Ohrid (one of Europe’s deepest and oldest lakes), with the fourth section in the South of the country close to the border with Greece which will enhance connectivity between the cities of Bitola and Prilep.
Job Summary:Assigned to Concrete Structures organization in a supervisory and management capacity. Responsible for supervising and directing operations of concrete structures construction on motorway project, and related activities within Structures discipline area. Structures include the following elements: bored piling; foundation excavation; reinforcing steel; proprietary and bespoke formwork systems; concreting of sub-structure, bridge elevation, abutments and decks; and operation of pre-stressed concrete casting yards. Supervises and directs craft activities, subordinates, and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets. Performs general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions.
Major Responsibilities:- The jobsite structures operations including onsite activities of Joint Venture, subcontractors, suppliers, clients and their representatives and others as may be assigned within area of responsibility.
- The structures operations field workforce to ensure the jobsite organization is comprised of qualified and knowledgeable personnel and ensures effective personnel utilization.
- Directing craft activities, through craft supervision, within the area of responsibility. Monitors and ensures that the quality of work performed meets requirements.
- Coordination of the project with internal team, contractor, subcontractors and vendors regarding time schedule, material specification and quality.
- Facilitating problem solving, as they arise, between subcontractors and vendors during fit-out.
- Validating design issues related to structure and suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
- Assist in the receipt and review of structural submittals.
- Monitoring and supervision of the project execution process on-site to ensure completion of the job within specified time frames, in an organized and cost-effective manner, in accordance with the approved design and quality standards.
- Examination of the drawings, assess the material requirements, approve and submit material requisitions accurately.
- Examination of the project program based on the schedules mentioned, assess the material and manpower requirement for the job.
- Monitoring progress against the project plan, taking quick corrective action where required.
- Conducting quality checks on works carried out. Coordinate with the statutory agencies during spot checks on the site and ensure adherence to Quality, Health and Safety regulations on site.
- Supervising work at the site regularly; attend to all technical and engineering problems, drawing changes, etc., in an effective and timely manner thereby achieving Bechtel requirements and quality standards.
- Monitoring the quality and safety of used equipment.
- Monitoring health and safety requirements on site.
- Follow-up with deliverables of labour and report the activities on a regular basis to management.
- Control and follow-up with projects logistics and materials site installation.
- Assistance in closeout of the project.
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
- Min. 2 years of industry experience;
- Experience working with, supervising and administering subcontractors and/or Direct Hire workforce;
- Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities;
- Knowledge of current industry standard quality requirements;
- Demonstrated ability to develop detailed inspection plans and regimes based on contract; project and industry quality standards; and project approved design documents;
- Able to work well within a team-based environment;
- Manage and produce accurate formal reports in accordance with business timetable;
- Knowledge of the use of subcontracts, and the contractor and subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.
