Summary1. Instruction: Assists the classroom teacher with necessary recordkeeping, data collection, preparation of behavior/progress reports, and daily communications; Communicates effectively with students in developing language, conceptual and behavioral skills using a variety of methods based on each student's individual ability. Teaches one-on-one with the student or in a small group instructional setting under the direction of the classroom teacher; Assists teacher with monitoring daily schedules, supervision of students during lunch and on field trips, as well as, during trips to the health center.2. Planning and Management: Assists the classroom teacher with the implementation of the IEP for each students served as assigned by the teacher; Assists the classroom teacher with the mechanics of classroom management on a daily basis, including the preparation of class materials, managing student behavior by use of the student Code of Conduct and/or individual behavior programs; Assists with student self-care needs (lifting as needed); Provides supervision of students served according to student competency rules and regulations of SCSDB; Promotes and encourages proper behavior and conduct for each student; Assists students with loading and unloading from buses and cars in the morning and afternoon.
3. Professionalism: Meets district and school deadlines established for task completion; Supports teacher communication with parents/guardians/dorm; Participates in professional development opportunities; Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills and collaborates effectively with other staff members; Adheres to district guidelines for staff attendance and follows board-approved policies and procedures; Contributes to the overall success of the school and shares its commitment to the education of individuals with sensory differences; Maintains confidentiality of student information and records in accordance with SCSDB, State, and/or Federal laws/regualtions.
Examples of dutiesA high school diploma and experience in administration, education, or child care working with children in educational setting and/or behavior management program. Experience working with children in an educational setting and/or behavior management program, preferably with deaf/hard of hearing children. This position may require communication modalities dependent upon employment placement.
