Job Purpose
The Senior Project Planner is responsible for leading the development, maintenance, analysis, and reporting of project and program schedules. The role provides planning expertise to support project delivery, ensuring robust scheduling practices, resource optimisation, risk identification, and effective stakeholder communication.
Working closely with project managers, engineering teams, contractors, and key stakeholders, the Senior Project Planner will provide critical insights into project performance, forecast outcomes, and support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Scheduling
Develop, maintain, and manage integrated project schedules from concept through to project completion.
Establish project planning methodologies, standards, and controls.
Create detailed work breakdown structures (WBS), logic-linked schedules, and milestone plans.
Develop baseline schedules and manage change control processes.
Analyse critical path activities and identify schedule constraints.
Monitor schedule performance and recommend corrective actions.

Project Controls & Reporting
Produce regular schedule updates and performance reports.
Conduct schedule health checks and compliance reviews.
Prepare earned value and progress performance analysis where applicable.
Develop project dashboards and management reporting packs.
Support project reviews, audits, and governance requirements.

Risk & Opportunity Management
Identify schedule-related risks and opportunities.
Perform schedule risk assessments and scenario modelling.
Support mitigation planning and contingency development.
Monitor critical interfaces and emerging project risks.

Stakeholder Management
Engage with project managers, engineering teams, contractors, consultants, and clients.
Facilitate planning workshops and schedule review meetings.
Present planning insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
Foster collaborative relationships across project teams.

Resource & Forecast Planning
Support resource planning and capacity forecasting.
Analyse productivity trends and resource utilisation.
Assist with workforce planning and procurement scheduling.
Align project schedules with budget and delivery requirements.

Key Accountabilities
Delivery of accurate and reliable project schedules.
Timely identification and escalation of schedule risks.
Quality and consistency of project planning outputs.
Achievement of project planning KPIs and reporting requirements.
Effective stakeholder engagement and communication.
Compliance with organisational governance standards and procedures.


Qualifications
Degree qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or a related discipline.
Formal project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, AIPM) desirable.
Minimum 8-10 years' experience in project planning, project controls, or major project delivery environments.
Demonstrated experience planning large-scale infrastructure, transport, engineering, construction, or capital projects.
Proven capability developing and managing complex integrated schedules.
Experience working within project governance and reporting frameworks.
Strong understanding of project lifecycle methodologies.

Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Project and the Microsoft Office suite.
Experience with project controls and reporting systems.
Understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles.
Experience with Power BI or similar reporting platforms desirable.
Strong analytical and schedule modelling skills.
