Mechanisms Design Engineer (m/f/d)

Mission Brief 

You will need strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, direct reports and leaders within and outside the organization. You will be part of a team responsible for developing stage separation mechanisms, fairing separation mechanisms, hydraulicpneumatic and electro-mechanical actuators and umbilical fluid and electrical systems. You have mechanical and integrated design experience as well as proven track record of delivering results on time and quality, while completing collaborative projects effectively. Your design, analysis and manufacturing skills enable you to own the outcomes of key mechanism design trades and development of our Spectrum Launch Vehicle. 

Your Role in Our Space Mission: 

  • Design of the vehicle mechanisms through design phases (CAD, drawings, sizing) until qualification and acceptance. 
  • Requirements definition for vehicle mechanisms 
  • Driving trade studies, manufacturing optimization and performance for mechanisms 
  • Interface with teams in static structures and propulsion 
  • Creating, reviewing and releasing development and flight hardware drawings and design documentation 
  • Identifying build/test/design optimizations and working them to resolution 

Qualification Checklist 

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or related field with proven record of excellent results and timely execution 
  • 2+ years of experience in a product full cycle design engineering role, including CAD (Siemens NX preferred), assembly and test execution 
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, project management, scheduling/planning, materials and surface treatments 
  • Good understanding and experience of ISO GPS or ASME GD&T tolerancing principles 
  • Good understanding of kinematic synthesis, pneumatic/hydraulic and electro-mechanical actuation, mechatronics, instrumentation, structures strength, stability, fatigue failure modes and tribology 
  • Collaborative and communication driven attitude: team work is key to success 
  • Proficient English skills (German is a plus) 

Bonus Skills

  • Previous experience with kinematic synthesis, pneumatic/hydraulic and electro-mechanical actuation, mechatronics, instrumentation, structures strength, stability, fatigue failure modes and tribology
  • Experience in structure and fluid systems for launch vehicle design or equivalent aerospace product, complex parts manufacturing and assembly techniques
  • Experience with design and sizing engineering tools such as NX, TeamCenter, Solidworks, Ansys, Altair HyperWorks solutions, Nastran 
  • Experience with ERP/MES Systems, product lifecycle management (PLM e.g. Teamcenter) and/or data management 
  • Highly motivated to join a European space company and make it succeed  
  • Willing to travel to the launch site and suppliers when necessary for hardware support
