Work Your Magic with us! Start your next chapter and join MilliporeSigma.

Ready to explore, break barriers, and discover more? We know you’ve got big plans – so do we! Our colleagues across the globe love innovating with science and technology to enrich people’s lives with our solutions in Healthcare, Life Science, and Electronics. Together, we dream big and are passionate about caring for our rich mix of people, customers, patients, and planet. That's why we are always looking for curious minds that see themselves imagining the unimaginable with us.

Your Role:

We’re seeking a Bioprocess Applications Engineer 3 to join the Single Use and Integrated Systems Product Development team, part of MilliporeSigma’s Process Solutions business unit. Based at our Bedford, MA campus, this role will support the development and application of integrated platform solutions for next-generation bioprocessing.

In this role, you will combine engineering fundamentals, hands-on experimentation, data analysis, modeling, and customer-focused problem-solving to evaluate emerging technologies and characterize system performance. You will translate application insights into product requirements, technical recommendations, and practical guidance that support both product development and customer success.

This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys applying technical depth to real-world bioprocessing challenges — defining the right problem, developing appropriate experimental or modeling approaches, and converting insights into recommendations that support product development and customer success.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering fundamentals and bioprocessing knowledge to characterize system performance and guide product development.
  • Translate customer and process needs into clear technical questions, experimental plans, and decision-ready recommendations.
  • Develop and apply CFD, mechanistic models, data-driven approaches, and other in silico tools, to evaluate flow, mixing, shear, pressure drop, heat transfer, residence time, mass transfer, and related performance characteristics.
  • Design and execute application studies, test methods, and scale-down models under customer-relevant conditions.
  • Translate application learnings into product requirements, technical recommendations, customer-facing materials, and practical guidance that support product adoption and successful use in bioprocessing workflows
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners, and customers to advance technologies from concept through commercialization.
  • Support customer trials, investigations, and new use cases by communicating findings and capturing actionable feedback to inform future product and application development.

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph. D. in an Engineering field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, etc.)

-OR-

  • Master’s Degree in an Engineering field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, etc.) with 4+ years of industry experience

-OR-

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, etc.) with 5+ years of industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong foundation in fluid dynamics, transport phenomena, thermodynamics, and scale-up and scale-down principles.
  • Hands-on experience applying CFD, Multiphysics simulation, mechanistic modeling, and other quantitative approaches to solve practical engineering problems.
  • Experience developing experimental plans, scale-down models, test methods, or representative systems to characterize product or application performance.
  • Experience with single-use technologies or bioprocessing workflows through product development, process development, manufacturing, or field applications.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including experience with statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, coding, or visualization tools such as Python, MATLAB, R, JMP, Minitab, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of product and process development practices, such as design of experiments, FMEA, design for manufacturing, test method development, qualification, or validation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interpret technical results and explain findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
