St. Louis County Assessor's Office seeks to fill the role of Office Services Specialist, to perform complex office duties in support of a defined technical function requiring the application of in-depth knowledge of state and local statutes, ordinances and codes.

The successful candidate will be interpreting, verifying, updating, recording, and processing information and documents; interacting with the public and County departments providing technical assistance and guidance; preparing reports and documentation; and processing and maintaining written and computerized records.

The schedule for this position is 8 hours a day, Monday – Friday.

Examples of duties

Essential Function Examples

    • Accurately and efficiently reviews various types of business declarations/renditions and supporting documents.  
    • Ability to interpret, verify, update, record and process information based on documents submitted  and relevant policies statutes, ordinances and codes.
    • Process Business personal property registrations, field reports and requests for waivers and merchant licenses.  
    • Interact with the general public and County Departmental contacts and other Missouri counties as needed.   
    • Provide an overview of personal property as it relates to businesses, manufacturers, leasing companies and individuals. Provide technical assistance and guidance to employees and the general public in relation to using online platforms for the office
    • Provides effective and courteous taxpayer service when working the window station or responding to telephone inquiries. Displays professional conduct in all manner of communication with business owners, tax agents, other county departments, and attorneys when resolving issues related to assessment of business personal property.
  • Marginal Function Examples

    • Prepare reports, summaries and documentation for use at meetings and for processing paperwork.
    • Process and maintain written and computerized records.
    • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Equivalent to three years of professional work experience in a general office environment.
  • Preference may be given to applications as follows: 
    • Familiarity with financial documentation, including but not limited to, fixed asset ledgers, balance sheets and leasing contracts.

Supplemental informationSELECTION AND APPOINTMENTA selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.

The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job-related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.  

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.  Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
