Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP) is the state’s only Class 1A facility and the only correctional facility providing custody and control of adult male inmates who have been sentenced to death.

Examples of dutiesThree years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.   • Applies GASB Codification and GFOA governmental accounting, auditing, and financial reporting standards to ensure compliance with state and local government financial requirements

  • Adheres to AICPA auditing guidance, including Statements of Auditing Standards and standards for audits of state and local governmental units.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state financial oversight requirements, including OMB Circulars A-87 (cost principles) and A-128 (audits of state and local governments), along with OSRAP and DOA policies and procedures. Utilizes LaGov HCM, Intuit QuickBooks, and Department of Corrections financial systems and procedures, including LSP accounting processes and inmate banking operations.
  • Serves as accountant for LSP and supervisor of Inmate Banking; audits Rodeo daily deposit documentation to ensure sales activity reconciles accurately with financial reports.
  • Coordinates and allocates large-scale financial transactions, including posting approximately 550 156B documents and $250,000 in monthly Visa expenditures to correct organization and object codes, with Works Program allocations prior to administrative sweep.

Position-Specific Details: 

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE 

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted. 
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. 
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment. 

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. However, the salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

  • Accountant 1 has an SER of $ 21.63 per hour
  • Accountant 2 has an SER of $ 23.14 per hour
  • Accountant 3 has an SER of $ 26.5 per hour

Career Progression Group: ACCOUNTANT 1, 2, OR 3

  • Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.
  • Salary depends on level of experience.
