General Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Maintenance Foreman, responsible for supervising the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of all DOTD owned buildings, facilities, and welcome centers in District 62. This position is located in Unit 701 and reports directly to the Facility Maintenance Manager A. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties many times with or without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Four years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR

Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR

Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance. Job Duties:

  • Supervises, assigns, and assist crews with the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of all DOTD owned buildings, facilities, and welcome centers. 

  • Makes purchases of material and supplies by following department policy and purchasing requirements. 

  • Maintenance, repairs and rehabilitation projects may include but not be limited to making new additions and renovating existing facilities, roof repairs and replacements, installation of paneling, laying floor tile, ceramic tile, and ceiling tile, installation of sheet rock, molding, cabinets and counter tops, doors/windows, vinyl siding, install and repair of door locks, and window air conditioning units.

  • Oversees Purchases for maintenance supplies in accordance with DOTD purchasing rules and regulations. Prepares necessary documents, approves leave request, completes daily work reports, and approves payroll. Interviews, selects, trains, and counsels staff.

  • Provides supervision for minor electrical maintenance to include the following: replaces light fixtures; changes electrical receptacles; installs fans, window units, and heaters; installs electrical flush valves. All other related activities for installation of appliances.

Position-Specific Details:

The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as to maintain the following licensing and operate the following equipment:

  • Candidates not possessing a Chauffer’s License (Class D) at the time of hire can be employed and will be notified in writing that documented proof of possession of the necessary permanent CDL must be provided as a condition of employment during the probationary period.
  • Operate a state owned vehicle, computer, surveying equipment, etc.
  • Perform duties in extreme weather conditions such as rain, cold, or heat
  • May be required to lift items up to 50 lbs

Appointment Type: This position will be filled by a current, permanent employee of DOTD. The selected candidate may be required to serve a 12- to 24-month probationary period upon appointment.

Work Schedule: Work schedule and hours may vary. The incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.

Compensation: Salary is dependent upon qualifications. Below is the starting hourly rate for this position.
