The Louisiana State Penitentiary is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Maintenance Manager to lead and oversee all facility maintenance operations across the institution. This leadership role is essential in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our buildings, infrastructure, and equipment. We are looking for an experienced professional who demonstrates strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively manage a diverse maintenance team in a complex correctional environment. The ideal candidate will be committed to operational excellence, preventive maintenance, and supporting the institution’s mission through dependable and strategic facilities management.Examples of dutiesFive years of experience in the building construction trade or building maintenance; or in road or bridge construction or maintenance; OR
Completion of a two-year training program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus three years of experience in the building construction trade or building maintenance; or in road or bridge construction or maintenance; OR
Eighteen semester hours in a construction field or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trade or building maintenance; or in road or bridge construction or maintenance. Qualifications

Supplemental informationJob Duties:• Direct, plan, and supervise all maintenance operations across the Louisiana State Penitentiary, including building systems, grounds, utilities, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure safe, continuous, and efficient facility operations.
• Manage, assign, and oversee work performed by maintenance staff, including skilled trades, technicians, and support personnel; ensure work quality, adherence to safety standards, and timely completion of tasks.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical systems, and institutional equipment to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
• Review work orders, prioritize maintenance needs, and coordinate projects with institutional leadership to ensure operational continuity and resource availability.
• Inspect facilities and equipment to identify maintenance issues, safety hazards, and repair needs; initiate corrective actions and long-term solutions.
• Coordinate and monitor contractor performance for specialized maintenance or construction projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, timelines, and institutional policies.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and inventory; prepare reports for administrative and regulatory review.
• Assist with budget planning by providing input on materials, supplies, equipment needs, and project costs; ensure cost-effective utilization of resources.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, institutional rules, and state maintenance standards; lead efforts to promote safe work practices among staff.
• Collaborate closely with security, operations, and administrative departments to support facility readiness and solve operational challenges.
• Participate in emergency response operations, providing leadership and technical expertise during critical incidents, equipment failures, or severe weather events.

Appointment Type: Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)
- The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted or may be required to accept a probational appointment.
