Summary

The purpose of this position is to manage the operation and supervision of countywide athletic programming for both youth and adult sports. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Examples of duties

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Works with community partners, athletic directors, regional parks and recreation departments and other organizations to collaboratively develop athletic activities, league play, partnerships and girls’ athletics.
  • Serves as on call point of contact for all events in the absence of staff.
  • Registers participants and inputs all athletic programming.
  • Completes and/or assists in completing various forms to include field rental applications, reservations, attendance records and reports and related forms.
  • Assists customers in organizing and scheduling athletic events.
  • Collects fees, prepares receipts, and ensures proper handling of funds; counts and prepares daily money reconciliation.
  • Prepares/submits budget recommendations for the Athletics section.
  • Recruit volunteers and coaches for athletic programming.
  • Works sports events to assist in coverage of occurring programs.
  • Orders uniforms and trophies for all youth sports and tournaments.
  • Ensures compliance with outside sports programs (youth lacrosse and youth baseball/softball).
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education.
  • Over four years and up to and including eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
