JOB SUMMARY:

With the guidance and direction of the Executive Director administers the policies and programs of the Association including all fitness programs relating to youth, teen, adult, active older adult and specialty programs. Additionally, the Health & Wellness Coordinator will provide quality membership service by coordinating recreational usage of the facility and various value based programs. The Health & Wellness Coordinator administers and supervises all health, wellness related operations of the Branch including group exercise, personal training, and youth fitness. S/He will accept and display the character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

 

JOB FUNCTION:

 PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with Executive Director to determine fitness program development for youth, teens, adults, seniors and specialty groups.
  • Track effectiveness of member retention based fitness offerings such as Youth Fitness introduction, Get Going, and work with Health and Wellness Director to modify as necessary.
  • Work with Executive Director to improve/expand current YMCA fitness programs such as small group, smallest winner, and other programs as they develop.
  • Pursue partnerships with local physician’s offices, physical therapy clinics, cardiac rehab programs, etc to create and sustain feeder systems to personal training and healthy living programming.
  • Prepare departmental and branch program/event communications/flyers as well as all promotional materials in accordance with set timelines.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings. Meet as needed with key program staff.
  • In cooperation with the Associate Executive Director, develop short and long range planning of respective departments.
  • Create new projects and &/or procedures to better service members and staff
  • Provide regular training to both new and veteran fitness staff to ensure the quality, effectiveness, and messaging of our Get Going Program
  • Help fellow trainers with sales technique, ideas to grow revenue, and ideas to grow member retention.
  • Propose marketing ideas and implementing marketing techniques to assist with growth of Personal Training, Youth & Adult Programming, and Group Fitness.
  • Supervise Smallest Winner program
  • Host at least 2 educational trainings for wellness staff/yearly

 

 SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL:

 

Fitness Instructors

  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate based on job descriptions and representation of branch/Old Colony/Y-USA goals
  • Orient new employees to policies, procedures, and expectations of Old Colony YMCA and branch using onboarding processes
  • Assist in fitness staff evaluation process by weighing on each member of the fitness staff, their role in Get Going appointments, and their ability to contribute to team monthly revenue goals
  • Lead staff meetings and staff led focus groups a minimum of every other month

 

Personal Trainers

  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate based on job descriptions and representation of branch/Old Colony/Y-USA goals
  • Set, communicate, and hold staff accountable for monthly revenue goals

 

Group Exercise

  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate based on group exercise schedule
  • Hold staff accountable for evaluations, curriculums, and program quality
  • Evaluate the team and the schedule regularly to meet the needs of the members

 FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in preparation of respective departmental budgets. Administer approved budgets and take appropriate action to maintain fiscal soundness, correcting variances as needed. 
  • To adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures such as petty cash, member services, member registration, purchase orders, and employee expenses.
  • Meet and/or exceed budget expectations.
  • Approve and assure Fitness instructor/ personal trainer payroll is complete in a timely manner

 

  • FACILITY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Maintain all assigned facility program areas and equipment in a neat, clean and organized manner
    • Seek out and communicate all down equipment to maintenance contract agencies and ensure fastest possible turnaround time. Schedule preventative maintenance visits quarterly.
    • Re-order all fitness center items suffering from wear and tear, ensure programs have necessary supplies

 INTERDIVISIONAL/COMMUNITY/VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote Y programs through public appearances and presentations.
  • Assist with specialty program activities.
  • Active member of the Association Health & Wellness Team

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors Degree in fitness/exercise/wellbeing related field
  • Minimum four years related experience
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Current NCCA personal training certification
  • Previous supervisory experience required, minimum two years.
  • Must be able to conduct fitness classes, lift, push and pull heavy weights to demonstrate equipment and technique, and to set up and break down equipment.
