Your Job
We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Technician to support and execute the First Article Inspection (FAI) process for aerospace electronics manufacturing. In this role, you will coordinate, perform, and document FAIs in accordance with AS9102 and customer-specific requirements while ensuring product conformity, complete documentation packages, and timely release of first article product. You will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Production Control, and Quality to reduce FAI cycle time while maintaining compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
Our Team
You will join the Manufacturing Quality group that partners closely with Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure First Article Inspections are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with AS9100, AS9102, customer requirements, and internal quality procedures. The team supports new product introductions, engineering changes, and production readiness while maintaining complete product traceability.
What You Will Do
- Coordinate and execute First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9102, customer specifications, and internal procedures.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material (BOMs), planning, and revision changes to determine FAI requirements.
- Complete AS9102 Forms 1, 2, and 3, ensuring all required documentation is accurate, complete, and traceable.
- Verify dimensional, visual, functional, and documentation requirements using appropriate inspection equipment and approved inspection methods.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Production Planning, and Operations to obtain required objective evidence supporting FAI packages.
- Review certifications, material traceability, special process documentation, test reports, and supplier documentation for completeness and compliance.
- Identify missing documentation or nonconformances that could delay FAI approval and work with cross-functional teams to resolve issues.
- Maintain FAI records and documentation in accordance with customer, regulatory, and internal record retention requirements.
- Support engineering change validations, partial FAIs, delta FAIs, and repeat FAIs as required.
- Track FAI status and communicate priorities to ensure timely completion while supporting customer delivery commitments.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical certificate in electronics, quality, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on quality inspection experience in electronic manufacturing or PCB assembly environments.
· Experience using precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and other inspection equipment as applicable.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple FAIs and documentation packages simultaneously.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Experience performing First Article Inspections in accordance with AS9102.
- Experience supporting aerospace or defense manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 quality management system requirements.
- Familiarity with engineering change control and configuration management.
- Experience with ERP/MES systems and electronic document management.
- ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or equivalent quality certification.
- Experience participating in internal, customer, or third-party quality audits.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate activities across Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, and Quality.
