Job Description

About the role:

As we at AUTODOC continue to grow our business, the complexity of our regional operations grows alongside our successes. We now operate across multiple European entities in diverse regulatory landscapes, and our commitment to our people starts with ensuring they are supported by reliable, compliant, and transparent payroll processes. To maintain our high standards of excellence across Western and Southern Europe, we are hiring a dedicated expert to navigate these high-compliance markets.

As such, we are hiring a Regional Payroll Expert - Western & Southern Europe (m/f/d) to ensure the smooth execution of payroll for our entities in the UK, France, Italy, and Portugal. You act as the regional subject matter expert, bridging the gap between local legal requirements and our global payroll strategy. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of regional processes and ensure every AUTODOCer is paid accurately and on time.

Responsibilities:

  • Regional Execution: Take ownership of and validate the end-to-end payroll cycle for the UK, France, Italy, and Portugal. Review payroll outputs, reconciliations, and variance analysis prior to final approval. Ensure correct handling of complex pay elements.
  • Compliance Expert: Monitor and interpret regional legislative changes, ensuring timely implementation in payroll processes. Guarantee full compliance with local tax, social security, pension, and labor regulations. Act as the primary liaison for audits, inspections, and statutory inquiries.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with local payroll providers and in-country partners. Ensure vendors meet defined SLAs, KPIs, deadlines, and data quality standards. Drive regular service reviews and performance improvements.
  • Process Harmonization: Align regional payroll workflows with the Global Payroll Hub’s standards. Identify opportunities to automate and standardize workflows, reducing manual interventions. Lead or contribute to payroll-related transformation and system implementation projects.
  • Query Management: Act as the Tier 2 escalation point for complex payroll inquiries from employees and local authorities within the region. Ensure timely and accurate resolution of issues. Enhance payroll transparency and communication, improving employee understanding of payslips, deductions, and payroll processes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with People, Finance, Tax, Legal, and Treasury to ensure aligned, compliant, and efficient payroll operations and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Deep Regional Knowledge: Proven experience in Portugal (mandatory) and/or France/UK/Italian payroll processes; at least 3+ years total experience in multi-national payroll.
  • Detail Orientation: Ability to manage the high complexity of Southern European labor laws and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Communication: Fluent in English. Strong proficiency in French, Italian, or Portuguese is highly desirable for communication with local authorities.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with payroll systems, HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday, SAP), and local payroll providers.
  • Problem Solver: Ability to investigate discrepancies and reconcile differences between local legal requirements and global HRIS data.
